About Music in Movies
Welcome to Music in Movies!
Our story
I am Elita, founder of Music in Movies and I have been fascinated by film music since I was a child. I think film scores can often become quite an overlooked part of the film making process and so I want to shine a light on composers’ work and uncover the intricacies of their writing. Film scores hold so much beauty and emotion and quite honestly not enough people sit and take in how much work has gone into them. Listening to film scores instead of mainstream music during different seasons in life can be the most magical experience to accompany your mundane everyday. There’s something so underrated and cathartic about living life with emotionally charged film music playing through your headphones. I’m certain film music can serve you in the same way it serves me and so I am looking forward to providing you with interesting content that will inspire, intrigue and interest you.
Backstory
I have always found music behind the screen utterly fascinating and a beautiful medium of storytelling. Growing up, I always had a sharp musical ear and was always captivated more by the music than the visual film. It was the part of the movie I was most excited for, intrigued to how the composer would musically match and reflect the action on screen. I soon found myself researching the composers writing style, analysing the music and creating playlists of my favourite film tracks, pressing play whenever I needed to feel better. I soon found that listening to film music was more enjoyable and cathartic than listening to mainstream music. Because film music is without lyrics and has been composed for screen to tell a story, it’s a lot better at eliciting an emotional response as the music is usually more emotionally charged. I prefer this holistic way of listening to music as it allows you to process how you are thinking/feeling more easily. I believe that is one of the main purposes of music in the first place, so I often do wonder why more people don’t listen to film music or if they’ve just never thought to give it a go! I find film music a lot more calming and enjoyable to listen to rather than popular music and the best thing is there is a genre for everyone depending on what kind of movies you prefer.
